Toroidal Transformer
Typically used in flagship Hi-Fi components, the A-S1200 benefits from the absolute musicality and technical proficiency provided by a toroidal transformer. The A-S1200 amplifier combines a host of high-end Hi-Fi features and components, with the toroidal transformer helping to convey the emotion of the music to the listener.
Thick Grounding Wires for Low Impedance
The low impedance concept, supported by thick grounding wires, is a prerequisite for a high-quality Hi-Fi product. This concept provides the A-S1200 amplifier with an open and natural soundstage, bringing the artist and listener closer together.
High-Quality Speaker Terminals
The screw terminals and specifically designed components are precision-machined from pure brass, ensuring a tight wire connection without compromising sound quality. The finger-friendly screws not only look good but are also easy to tighten and loosen with minimal force.
Mechanical Grounding Concept
Like the A-S2200 and A-S3200, the A-S1200 also employs a mechanical grounding concept, which includes welding the equipment feet directly to the chassis, large heatsinks, a powerful transformer, and capacitors directly attached to the chassis. This implementation eliminates unwanted vibrations and achieves expressive rhythm in the music.
Construction
To complement the amplifier's chassis rigidity, the A-S1200 is equipped with heavy-duty, redesigned equipment feet.
Floating and Balanced Power Amplifier & MOSFET Transistors
The basic structure of the power amplifier circuit follows Yamaha's proprietary, specially developed floating and balanced power amplifier technology. The positive and negative sides of the output stage have identical components, and the NFB (negative feedback) circuit and power supply stage are completely isolated for the left and right channels into four separate positive and negative sides – thus achieving a fully symmetrical push-pull output stage. The "floating" of the entire power amplifier stage from ground eliminates any negative interference that small voltage fluctuations and background noise could cause. The MOSFET transistors in the output elements bring warmth and naturalness to the sound. Their polarity is the same on the positive and negative sides, which contributes to the ideal perfect symmetrical structure and eliminates sound quality variations due to polarity differences. This is a significant feature of the floating and balanced power amplifier. The result is sound with a superior signal-to-noise ratio and extremely precise sound field.
High-End Electronic Volume Control for Ideal Sound Reproduction
The A-S1200 features a high-quality digital volume control developed by New Japan Radio Co. Ltd. It uses only ladder-type resistors, which eliminates voltage speed reduction and the effect of sound coloration. The result is cleaner sound and excellent, fast response to large volume changes and steep transients.
Symmetrical Structure for Ideal Stereo Sound Reproduction
The left-right symmetry of the power supply and power amplifier sections enables high-quality separation of the left and right channels – which is extremely important for high-quality two-channel stereo sound reproduction – and optimal weight distribution. The chassis features a precisely adjusted edge-to-edge frame and redesigned metal feet (with a choice of spikes or pads). These give the unit good mechanical rigidity and allow for stable placement, significantly reducing the impact of external vibration on sound quality.
Discrete Phono Amplifier
The phono amplifier features discrete MC pre-amplifier and EQ amplifier sections. These allow the rich, magnificent sound of vinyl records to be heard when using both MC and MM cartridges.
Level Meters Provide Visual Dynamics of Music
The front panel of the A-S1200 amplifier features level meters, allowing visual enjoyment of music. The quick, precise movements of the pointers are illuminated by a beautifully warm LED light. In addition to volume, the meters can be selected to display peak values. The meter protection plate is precisely fitted to the chassis.
