Alpine marine speakers do not require a separate enclosure; they can be installed as "free-air" installations. The speakers are also splash-proof, with all marine speakers (including connectors) capable of withstanding UV radiation and saltwater, for example.
In addition to all external appearance updates, the SPS-M601W speaker has also undergone internal changes. Among other things, the bass response has been improved, and the speaker reproduces approximately ten hertz lower than its predecessor.
